in 1514 Machiavelli penned a rather curious letter to his good friend and benefactor Francesco Vettori. In this document, he related a bird-hunting story set in urban Florence, with Giuliano Brancacci, a mutual friend, as its protagonist. It explores an Italian society rife with metaphors on human sexuality, love, lust, pornography, and openly gay eroticism.

LOL. Difficult to translate. It is an erotic limerick in early 16th century Italian (volgare). I guess Machivaelli did have a "dark" side to his writing!
